My name is Steph and I am obsesed with sewing!
I always thought I would become an artist of some sort. For a long time I thought I would be a painter. I went to college to major in fine art, and about 3 years into it I had doubts and questioned the practical aspects of it. Meanwhile, I did what lots of college students do when they don't know what they're doing with their life: take a year off to travel. I spent most of that year in New Zealand on a not-yet-so-sustainable permaculture farm (possibly a commune) and fell in love with ecology. When I got back, I finished University with a major in biology. Soon after that I went on to get a PhD in Botany.
For a variety of reasons I did not go on to pursue a career in science, but instead I took a gamble on my etsy business, Juniper & Lace, which I had started a few years before. In a way it felt like the pendulum was swinging back to art. I have an insatiable need to create. It's a huge part of who I am.
So when I found the world of indie sewing patterns, I became obsessed. It was that feeling of, why didn't I find this sooner!? And immediately after I starting sewing clothing, I dreamed of creating my own patterns. After years of sewing, training & learning pattern drafting, I dove into my first pattern; I spent the better part of 2020 creating my first pattern! I aim to create a range of patterns for anyone hoping to Cultivate Their Handmade Wardrobe! Hence, the name PatternBotany!
When I am not sewing, I am knitting, hiking, rock climbing or gardening with my husband in sunny Colorado.
